"Stories from the Vault" – Unlocking the past

Ulster Bank Employees Reunite at co:worx as part of heritage week

As part of Heritage Week, Edgeworthstown came alive with nostalgia at the "Stories from the Vault" event, hosted in Co:worx.  On Saturday, August 24th, former Ulster Bank employees returned to their old stomping grounds for a heartwarming reunion, sharing memories and celebrating the good old days in the newly repurposed building.

The Ulster Bank building, a listed building, which stood as a cornerstone of the community for over a century, has found new life as a digital hub, blending the town's rich history with its bright future it has played a significant role in regenerating Edgeworthstown.

Former employees traveled from near and far, with some coming from Maynooth and Castlerea, to reconnect with their old colleagues. As they wandered through the familiar rooms, memories came rushing back and the building was filled with sounds of laughter, shared stories, and fond memories. The atmosphere was great, as old friends reunited, some for the first time in years.

The building's transformation did not detract from the deep friendship and connection felt by those who had spent years working within its walls. Instead, it provided a fitting backdrop for celebrating the past, while also looking forward to the future. Everyone was impressed with the facilities now available in the building and were delighted to see that all the old features had been carefully preserved.

Historical stories from the Longford Leader archives were gathered and showcased on digital screens throughout the hub.  We even tracked down Barry Dolan, who was 5 months old when he was pictured in the Sam Maguire Cup in the Longford Leader on 22 December 1992.

The success of "Stories from the Vault" is a true reflection of the friendships formed among the Ulster Bank staff and the importance of preserving and celebrating the town's heritage. The event was more than just a reunion; it was a chance to remind everyone that the heart of the community is built on the stories of its people.

Co:worx would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who attended and contributed to making the event a memorable occasion. Plans are already in motion to hold a similar event in the future.
